E-Freight Initiative
The e-freight initiative is a paper-free transaction that runs across the shipment lifecycle, reducing costs drastically while improving efficiency. The initiative, in alliance with IATA as a strategic business partner, aims at a phased approach towards providing solutions towards a paperless environment in the air cargo business processes.
IATA's long-term vision is to free air cargo industry processes of paper, which run across the cargo line between various parties including shippers, airlines, freight forwarders, handling agents, import / export brokers and customs. The IATA Board of Governors has now set the vision and targets for IATA e-freight; a minimum of five countries will begin pilots during 2007.
IATA e-freight is facilitating the industry, through cross functional and cross segment working groups, to establish and agree on industry principles for operating within an e-customs environment, business processes and e-message standards. By joining the IATA e-freight Preferred Partner program, Wipro has committed to the development of e-freight solutions that will dramatically reduce complexity and paper-based processes.

The framework is SOA compliant, utilizes adaptors for easy access to multiple sources of travel inventory and implements the OTA (Open Travel Alliance) XML messaging for industry standard exchange of booking data.
