Capabilities
Wipro Retail’s capabilities span the entire spectrum of business and IT solutions, from the relationship between the industry and business strategy, aligning business and technology activities through to ensuring that the resulting solutions support the day-to-day business operations.
Our extensive retail experience gained across an international industry gives us a unique insight into the retail challenges, enables us to consult at the highest levels within the retail business to contribute to the overall business strategy as well as the resulting IT strategy and infrastructure requirements.
Our ability to understand the industry has given us a reputation for getting things done, something we can prove through the number of long-term relationships we have with major retailers-our customers like to keep us around.

Strategy & Vision
Across our operating geographies, we can see an increasing trend where retailers are moving from large-scale enterprise-wide IT projects to the rapid application of technology with quick and visible ROI.
Retailers are widely adopting tools to optimise core business functions: supply chain performance, merchandise planning, queue management, promotions and markdown management, loss prevention, basket analysis, workforce management.
They are also integrating core systems in order to get greater value from data (global data synchronisation), processes and people. And they are engaging in pilots to test the benefits of track and trace technology, leading to RFID.
We see a long-term trend in retailing towards a convergence of technologies and the growth of end-to-end solutions. That is why we continuously invest in our working knowledge of areas such as data warehousing, RFID, process and commercial optimisation. We are determined to translate complex technologies so that they can be used by practitioners to add real bottom line value.

Planning
Planning defines the programme of work to be undertaken based on key objectives, performance indicators and ideal outcomes. We will assist retailers to determine what resources will be required in terms of people, processes and systems.
At this stage, Wipro Retail will work with the client to define roles and responsibilities to ensure that the resulting project is fully supported and positioned for success.
Whether the activity is based on a packaged IT solution, a bespoke application or a need to tune a business process, the approach is the same:
 |
Understand the strategy and business objectives |
 |
Understand the business and IT context |
 |
Establish the preferred outcomes |
 |
Engage the right stakeholders |
 |
Ensure the right level of governance |
For example in packaged solutions, the primary phase of a project will start with a Conference Room Pilot, an in-depth evaluation of each client's specific requirements for every business process.
This enables us to take decisions, develop a detailed project plan and complete a full risk evaluation.
The Wipro Retail Conference Room Pilot incorporates:
 |
Focusing on business needs, objectives, solutions and product features |
 |
Time management: think, evaluate and take decisions every day whilst keeping to schedule |
 |
Teamwork: all participants seek to achieve maximum fit and satisfaction - the client's team, the product supplier's team and Wipro Retail's team all work together |

Design
Design provides a template for how existing systems need to be modified and what new systems need to be added. Existing applications are reviewed and quality assessed to determine how they will fit in the new infrastructure.
In addition to systems and technology, the business landscape must also be carefully considered.
To ensure success it is important to look at specific roles and processes that will be impacted:
 |
What is the level of change? |
 |
Will the change be perceived as positive? |
 |
Do our people have the skills? |
 |
Are we ready for the change? |

Our philosophy is to establish the right level of governance and control.
At the same time, we are experienced at managing risk so that business as usual is fully protected and uninterrupted.
