Pharma Retailing
The practice focuses primarily on providing IT solutions and consultancy to clients in pharmacy retailing. The domain experts from the practice help in developing a deepevr understanding of the customer's business processes and functional requirements accelerating the knowledge transfer process and helps in training project teams in the pharmacy domain. The service offerings vary across the software development lifecycle and include business as well as technology consulting.

Since inception the Pharmacy Practice team has been involved in developing pharmacy industry related artifacts, frameworks and point solutions. To this effect, the proprietary Pharmacy Process Framework has been designed to aid pharmacy automation and help the customers in automating and optimizing their business processes. The framework illustrated through process flows and process maps encapsulates end-to-end functionality in processing of a prescription. The proposed framework was developed after an analysis of the pharmacy market in the United States.

To help customers realize and conceptualize solutions faster, the Pharmacy Team has developed a Pharmacy Prototype addressing end-to-end business process including Patient management, prescriber management, data entry, prescription processing, DUR, QA review, counseling and dispensing. The DUR Engine currently being developed by the Pharmacy Practice performs step by step validation of the dispensed drug against the patient’s current medical conditions and allergies to determine any reaction that would cause potential health hazard to the patients.

The Pharmacy practice jointly with the Data Architecture Group has developed a pharmacy solution system architecture based on a modular structure that covers the entire operations of a pharmacy system. It looks at the entire architecture from various aspects – functional, system and data tier. The functional model defines the functional systems of the pharmacy business from the typical flow of the prescription processing and supporting functionality. It also covers the various activities that are expected of the pharmacy system at a store and an enterprise level. The architecture solution is designed to serve as a jump start kit to build a dispensing solution and reduce the development cycle time.

Large retailers use legacy systems to manage prescription processing largely in a distributed setup without sharing excess workloads with other stores leading to high volume stores and low volume stores. The Pharmacy team is currently developing a point solution for Prescription Workload balancing, a concept, whereby partial prescription processing services of a high volume store can be shared with a lower volume store.

FDA recently announced the effective date to implement Drug Pedigree (either Paper or E-Pedigree) to be completed by December 31st 2006. Starting January 1st 2007 FDA intends all partners to track and trace drugs through the distribution to final dispensing. In the midst of the latest FDA mandate, Wipro Technologies is currently developing a technical and business solution around E-Pedigree using RFID for Pharmaceutical Industry.

Wipro is currently engaged in a custom pharmacy application development as the preferred development partner for a leading mass merchandiser. Wipro’s involvement spans all aspects of the SDLC from requirement gathering & analysis, design, development and testing (Functional consulting, Architecture definition & process definition).

Other pharmacy projects executed by Wipro include architecture roadmap definition for a leading drug chain and architecture due diligence for a mass merchandiser. Wipro was also involved in the support and development of a custom pharmacy application for a leading food & drug retailer.

Our learning toolkit starts from basics of Retail Pharmacy (RP 101) to very advanced levels covering the entire gamut of Prescription processing operation (RP 102). Standards training such as NCPDP telecom Standards 101 and Claim Adjudication 101 complete the toolkit. The learning toolkit can be effectively leveraged to speed up the knowledge acquisition process which lays the foundation for application support.
