Despar is above all a vision: an association between wholesalers and
retailers to offer the best products and services to their customers.
Established in 1932 in Holland, today International SPAR boasts more
than 17,500 shops in 30 countries in 5 different continents.
At a national and regional level, the Despar brand and its activity are run by 11 autonomous companies.
In the north east area of Italy, Despar is currently Gruppo Aspiag. Gruppo Aspiag, member of SPAR Austria, has been working in Italy since the beginning of 1990. It quickly bought the Despar Distribution Centres located in Bolzano, Padova and Udine together with their sub-branches and their wide number of associate retailers. In the north east area of Italy, the Group is currently one of the market leaders, with its 10.6% market share. To date, the net turnover is about €1.02 billion. They own 147 branches and distribute to around 455 franchised stores. Thanks to these numbers the Gruppo Aspiag is currently the biggest among the companies that constitute the consortium Despar Italia.
Enabler has implemented Retek (now Oracle Retail) to enable Despar to realise significant improvements in its supply chain. This full retail architecture implementation was achieved in only nine months and covered the merger of three companies into one operational unit, leading to significant improvement in business performance. Notably, 40% improvement in labour performance in the warehouse, a reduction of 7 days in the average stock holding and increased benefits: circa €1M a year in the supply chain. There was a 40% reduction in the number of days for invoice matching and increased benefits of circa €2M a year.
Despar was so impressed with the work Enabler had undertaken that it decided to extend the project into new areas that can benefit from improvement, including: shrink control, warehouse automatic replenishment, ticket discount, document management (integration of scanned invoices on Oracle Retail Merchandise System, using optical character recognition) and transports management integration. Furthermore, Despar has also awarded Enabler a three-year application support & maintenance contract (2006 - 2008).
“This highly professional team was able to integrate business critical solutions, in a very short period of time, allowing Despar to consolidate their activity”, said the Project Director.
Enabler also provides application, support and maintenance for
Nisa-Today’s Oracle Retail Merchandise system, the Order Capture system, Integration and a Data Warehouse.
