Deploying a commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) quality management system to drastically reduce
the process definition time.
The client
A leading storage products
company.
The business challenge
The client had established
a process methodology for project execution. This methodology
had templates and manual but was lacking in procedures
and guidelines. Additionally, it had no processes defined
for sustenance, small projects and global delivery model.
Projects used only a few parts of the methodology, resulting
in discrepant project management and inconsistent SDLC
practices across different projects. There were no project
level metrics to track project performance through different
phases of lifecycle.
The solution
It was critical to define
processes quickly and the Wipro consultants customized
Rapid-Q, an off-the-shelf, customizable process assets
library developed based on the CMMI model and Wipro's
best practices. The Rapid-Q process framework contained
well defined process structure for project management,
engineering, support and organization activities. This
aided in faster process customization. In order to develop
a process framework that caters to various project types
and scenarios, 24 process areas were developed. The project
teams were trained on the new processes.
Business benefits
Defining a standardized
set of processes for multi geography development
The new process framework ensured a standardized system
across the multi-geography team. This ensured a reduced
inter dependency between project teams for the projects
developed jointly across two geographic locations. The
teams used consistent requirements, architecture and design
process.
