Radio Frequency Identification (RFID*)

RFID is one such technology which has the strategic potential to help manufacturing companies improve their extended supply chain efficiencies and increase inventory visibility. It changes the nature of supply, operations, distribution and storage of assets across the entire value chain – resulting in operational and cost efficiencies.
Wipro’s RFID solutions for Manufacturing
Wipro’s Manufacturing Solutions’ Center of Excellence (CoE) has a dedicated team of consultants who help customers define, analyze, design and implement RFID solutions. Our consultants have gained knowledge and expertise developing RFID solutions for some of our key customers.
Amongst others, our RFID solutions include a Wireless Yard Management System for a large automobile manufacturer and a Real-Time WIP Tracking System for an electronic component product manufacturer. These solutions have helped the customers improve their processes very effectively – remotely and with minimal manual intervention.

Closed Loop Solutions
Closed loop solutions are used in processes that are internal to an organization to help increase internal operational efficiencies. These solutions include lot track & trace, recall management, better shipping & receiving etc. Since these are within the organizations, data for these solutions are usually easily available often leading to a simpler implementation of an RFID solution. |

Open Loop Solutions
Open loop solutions help increase collaboration efficiency with external supply chain partners. The data for open loop solutions moves across company supply chains and could involve terabytes of data depending on the applications. |
The solutions provide significant business and cost benefits. They not only address the requirements of the manufacturing industry but also help meet compliance mandates of major retailers’ and Government departments.
* RFID is the method of remotely reading, retrieving and storing data using devices such as tags, readers. An RFID Tag contains a small silicon chip that carries limited data about the product it is attached to. The tag emits this data (either actively or passively) to Readers using radio waves thereby not requiring line of sight or human intervention for identification. The data is stored in a database and used to integrate with other systems in the supply chain. This can help track the tagged product right through the supply chain. |
