Analytics-Driven Retailing : Better insights,Decisions and Results

Today's consumers are more sophisticated and, thanks to technology, more in control of what they purchase and how they purchase it—whether through a brick-and-mortar store, a website, or call center—though the Internet, a mobile device, or in person. In an omni-channel retail world, retailers must be competitive, efficient, and consumer centric. Their technology infrastructure and processes must be in alignment with anytime, anywhere order and fulfillment as well as strategic inventory management. It's a world in which total channel integration is critical.

Retailers that have an aligned framework and employ quantitative methods to derive actionable insights from data and then uses those insights to shape business decision to improve outcomes reap maximum value. Retailers need to progress from extrapolating how something happened to getting recommendations for making optimal decisions and predicting the best and worst outcomes.

"We believe analytics-driven experimentation and performance improvement will be the key for successful retailers in the future. With our ability to drive predictive consumer insights and operational analytics, we are sure we will help retailers of tomorrow do business better by delivering insights that have a significant positive impact on customers business performance," says Bhanumurthy B. M., senior vice president, retail, CPG, transportation & government at Wipro Technologies.

Social Media & Future of Business: A Wipro and Stanford university thought paper

In the new web 2.0 era of communication; social media tools like blogging, micro-blogging, social networking, podcasting, video distribution, event coordination tools, wikis and photo sharing sites are fast transforming the business landscape.

In this context Wipro Technologies in collaboration with Stanford University and ETLA conducted a study across 20 Silicon Valley firms to analyze the economical relevancy of social media platforms (SMPs) to a business organization, the uses to which these platforms are put, and the reasons for their value.

Key Findings

  • 85% of respondents felt that internal social media had a positive overall impact on the firm's operations
  • 95% of respondents felt that external social media had a positive overall impact on the firm's operations
  • Recruitment was also found to benefit from external social media. However, outward facing business functions - such as competition analysis, supply-chain management and building strategic alliances - do not really benefit from external social media.
  • Going ahead, it is expected that the proliferation of interactive devices like smart phones, tablets, and gaming devices along with rapid technological advances will further drive the integration of social media into everyday use.

The research findings provide a roadmap for our customers to develop an appropriate social media strategy.
