Exploration & Production
In Col. Edwin L Drake’s time, ‘boring’ activities were purely based on oil seeps, favorable geological events and local hearsay. Since then, however, the need for scientific methods of information gathering, storage and retrieval has become a critical business process for the upstream Oil & Gas industry.

Mushrooming data volumes through 3D / 4D seismic, combinable logging tools, borehole imaging and real-time production monitoring has necessitated the need for harnessing and managing information. Today, access to the right information at the right time and place is crucial for effective decision making and sustaining that competitive advantage in a highly commoditized industry. Investments in areas like Real Time Reservoir Management, Next Generation Oil Fields, Data Management, Asset Management and Enterprise Application Integration are all critical in ‘strategically’ using information. However, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach in the industry and different companies have different organizational needs and spend areas. Hence, it becomes vitally important that these companies are able to identify the right technology solutions that support their business models, offer a better ROI and result in sustainable competitive advantage. Keeping this challenge in mind, Oil & Gas companies are partnering with Service Providers who have the capability to help them sift through an overwhelming and still evolving array of IT services and solutions to select the optimal technology investments.

We bring the right blend of domain expertise and industry knowledge to the upstream Oil & Gas business processes that enable our customers to optimize their technology investments.

Key Focus Areas

Petro-economic Modelling
Exploration and Production is a complex, but none the less dynamic, with 30-40 countries involved in licensing rounds annually and about half of these introducing or modifying model contracts and fiscal systems. Tax laws and rates are constantly changing to maximize the state’s take, while the investor’s focus remains on optimizing the RoI and NPV. Economic or fiscal modeling captures changes in the state’s take, production level disbursements, bonuses, cost recovery, depreciation and other parameters required for successfully screening the implementation of the contracts.

Wipro realizes the importance of the expertise and experience necessary for such a service and the team is therefore a combination of industry experts with a comprehensive understanding of the planning needs, diverse contract regimes ranging from royalty tax agreements to production sharing contracts to risked-service agreements, tax regimes, and technical consultants skilled across various software tools and technologies to deliver quality service in fiscal and financial modeling solutions across product lines.

Electrolog Digitization
Rising price of hydrocarbons and the uncertainty in supply and demand economics has prompted ‘brown fields’ to be brought to the fore in recent E&P activities. Bypassed reserves which were once thought to be economically unfeasible for exploitation have now gained attention. These reserves have prompted a re-look at their petro-physical parameters and existing geological and geophysical maps and seismic attributes. Driven by both regulatory mandates and the need to have all data available in WSR (WorkStation Ready) format for quick study, analysis, planning and exploitation of these reserves, electrolog-digitization constitutes an important part in data management and archival requirements.

Wipro offers this service (Electrolog Digitization) as a managed service to our upstream clientele. We have developed our own digitization workflow and leveraging our deep domain expertise in the upstream sector, are able to provide managed services in this area.

Exploration Management
Exploration leases and development rights are important to an E&P company, it is also imperative to track the progress and have up-to-date records pertaining to leases areas and hydrocarbon reserves pertaining to the respective blocks.

Wipro has supported global applications which maintain information on PSC contractual areas, leases, prospects, oil field data, geological and geophysical and reserves information.

Seismic Application
Seismic data acquisition gets better day by day with the incorporation of newer hardware technologies, but is the software keeping pace to use all available data from the area of interest to reduce risk of a dry well in areas covered by seismic application?

Wipro has re-engineered a seismic application utilizing neural networks and wavelet transforms to perform predictive modeling on seismic data and well logs to extrapolate petrophysical properties to areas of lesser well density.
