Printer driver testing and WHQL precertification

|

The client
An Asian market leader that manufactures printers for home and business users.

The challenge
The client required functional verification of their Asian language printer drivers. The user interface was also to be verified and WHQL precertification was to be undertaken. This activity was to be undertaken offshore, at Wipro premises and a transition strategy for the same needed to be created. Test strategies and executions for multiple drivers, multiple releases and changing firmware and reporting were to be created and executed.

The solution
Wipro took complete ownership of the printer driver testing. We established requisite lab resources. Our team of technically trained expert testers designed the test strategy such that the tests could be applied to most types of drivers. Standardised reporting mechanisms were constituted to enable the test progress to be visible to all levels of the client’s management. We established processes to test the drivers in such a manner that the client, the development team and the client’s other test partner’s could be involved with Wipro during the testing activities. Wipro’s in-house language experts ware able to provide assistance during all phases of the Asian locale testing. The client’s drivers were tested on all versions of the Windows operating system (including the 64-bit platform). The observed defects were reported using a proprietary defect reporting tool.
