| System testing of a Set-Top Box |
| |
| |
| The client |
| A large Chinese Set-Top box manufacturer |
| |
| The product |
| A DVB-S compliant Set-Top box |
| |
| The challenge |
| The client was facing tough market competition as it’s product was inferior in performance when compared to competitor products. The client’s product had close to 300 high severity defects detected during field trials. The client had performed in-house testing of it’s product prior to release but could not detect the bugs. They required independent testing from experts so as to track and report bugs in order to improve overall quality of their product. |

| The solution |
Wipro engineers understood the product, designed a test plan and wrote test code to test all the features of the product and its accessories. We verified various features of the product using our existing repository of System Test Cases and also creating test cases as required.
Some of the key features that we tested are:
Conditional Access |
Teletext |
Subtitle |
EPG |
Diseqc |
LNB |
RF Modulator |
Multi-Language Support |
We used a dedicated test lab with sophisticated equipment to test the client’s product. Our exhaustive testing approach even covered stress and boundary conditions. We ran comparative tests to ensure that the product met / beat competitor products in performance. Our solution reduced the field error rate to 2 defects and the test cycle time from 40 days to just 8 days. |
| |
| The benefits |
Numerous defects caught during system testing in all modules reducing opportunities for field errors |
Detected various opportunities for performance improvement during system testing. |
Reduced cost for the client as fixing a bug at field involved lot of overheads. |
