Implementing a common solution platform for a consumer products major

The idea
Standardize business processes across geographies.

The client
A Fortune 500 company, the client is a leader in worldwide manufacturing and marketing of consumer products in the areas of grooming, batteries and oral care. Having manufacturing operations spread over 54 manufacturing facilities in 20 countries, the client has its distribution network spanning above 200 countries and territories.

The business challenge

With the growing business, client had each of its regions with disparate processes and product lines evading a common technical platform. While streamlining the procurement process and bringing the inventory levels down were the priorities, the client desired visibility across the business. This would entail implementing a common solution platform, integrating various ERP and legacy systems. The client was looking for a partner having credentials in SAP implementations for multi-country, multi-currency organizations.

The solution
Wipro partnered with the client in conducting a system wide study to understand their business processes and then recommended SAP APO to aid the supply and demand and supply network planning process. A snapshot of the engagement follows:
Planning results passed to Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PPDS), and Business Information Warehouse
Creation and maintenance of a single Bill of Materials (BoM) to support all non-manufacturing processes
Harmonization of Bill of Materials (BoM) / Unit of Measure (UoM) rules across all business units
Application development for finished goods re-configuration, packaging operations, and sales order processing

The legal requirements of different countries were taken into account while implementing the Finance and Accounting module. Further, various modules underwent a Harmonization implementation for synchronization. Hyper-care support was offered post implementation using Wipro’s Onsite/Offshore model.

Business benefits
Seamless integration of local units into the global supply chain, lead to improved production scheduling and sequencing
Integration supply chain with a common business platform helped reduce maintenance costs, improved vendor collaboration and lowered raw material inventory
Substantial reduction in time taken to extract and validate data leading to compliance with legal obligation as per tax laws with reduction in Tax Audit time
Consolidation of company wide financials into the global reporting framework
