Offshore management of application development and maintenance (ADM) enhances savings and refocus core team on NGN evolution

The customer
Our customer is among the world's premier voice and data communications companies. The company runs the world's most sophisticated communications network and has one of the largest digital wireless networks in North America.

The challenge
The customer wanted to leverage on Wipro's Total Outsourcing model, as it strove to unlock value in its growth businesses and attain a leadership position. The speed at which this value was delivered to the customer was critical in a highly competitive market. As a strategic IT partner, this engagement demanded the best from Wipro in terms of telecom domain depth and its unique, cost-effective Outsourcing delivery model, since it involved a wide spectrum of mission-critical legacy Network Transport applications.

Wipro’s solution

We put forward a cost saving proposition to the customer, where our teams would support the applications offshore and provide maintenance support functions onsite.

By establishing a dedicated link facility of 56 KBPS with the customer's network, our offshore team can access the Mainframes on which the application development is executed. The project was undertaken in two phases.

In the first phase, our development team participated in the transition of applications at customer locations. Not only did this help them gather application -related knowledge, it assisted in their understanding of customer processes. The onsite team then transferred their knowledge to the offshore team, assisted by documentation received from the customer during the transition.

The second phase focused on the application support. i.e., resolving maintenance requests and new feature development. Critical and High priority maintenance requests are resolved onsite while low priority maintenance requests are handled offshore.

This combination based on our tried and tested methodology works efficiently to provide reliable, cost-effective maintenance support for our customer.

Key benefits
Cost reduction with 16 hour availability of support application
Release of critical manpower for Next Generation application development
