The client
Essent is a multi-utility group active in the energy, cable and waste processing sectors with a local market covering the southern, northern and eastern regions of the Netherlands. Essent is one of the three largest energy providers in the Dutch energy market and is also active in Belgium and Germany. The company is the number two cable television company in the Netherlands and occupies a prominent position in the Dutch waste processing market. Essent employs close to 12,000 people.
 
The challenge
The competitive energy market in the Netherlands has forced providers to find new ways of improving efficiency while growing market share. As a result of deregulation, Essent had to undergo significant organizational changes, including a legally mandated separation of the different parts of its business. Going forward, the company knew it had to focus on customers, and on offering new products and services.
 
The solution
Wipro was chosen to help Essent Energie make key optimization and architectural decisions especially in the existing Siebel eEnergy application. Wipro was also involved in the change management process for rolling out the new solution. As part of the solution Wipro integrated the Lodestar PricingExpert into the customer’s IT architecture to support the pricing and quotation, energy forecasting, load profiling and energy settlement processes.
 
The benefits
The solution provided Essent Energie with the ability to respond faster to market demands, increase their flexibility and operational efficiency and build a larger product portfolio. The solution also enabled the customer to obtain cost savings by allowing people to work more efficiently as the entire quotation and contracting process was integrated into one system.
