Major Re-engineering of a key WAM application, at the speed of thought (almost)

The challenge
A successful regulatory determination has a substantial impact on corporate performance and depends significantly on the quality of the asset information gathering, analysis of the information and reporting. One of our Client's UK regulated business is asset intensive and its performance is therefore dependent on its ability to capture, analyse, report and make decisions based on asset information. Our client is a leading Water and Wastewater Company in UK. They serve 20 per cent of the population of the UK, and maintain a network of over 100,000 kilometers of pipes, 100 water treatment works and 360 sewage treatment works.

The solution

Vista Asset Management (VAMs) is a major development project at our Client. It aims to deploy the existing (Vistec) system more widely across the company and enhance the existing functionality. Vistec incidentally is a service contact and service management system. The Contract Management work stream, which is part of Asset Management, is concerned with adding functionality to the VISTEC system to enable identification of work gangs awaiting work allocation and to raise particular status alerts for the attention of planning and deployment staff. WIPRO is involved as one of the partners for the client's applications both in development and support & maintenance areas. It is also responsible for the management of all of Client's support and maintenance partners. Wipro is currently executing support and maintenance of VISTEC, among other applications. The Contract Management team from Wipro participated in the requirements capturing, architecture design, sizing and estimates, analysis and design, development and unit testing, integration and system testing, user acceptance testing support and initial post implementation support before handing over to Application Support team.

The benefits
One of the main benefits of the Contract Management Project delivered by Wipro to the client was a system/environment where currently the client is witnessing marginal errors which are well within the Service Level Agreement norms. The other benefits to the client include 1) a significantly powerful tool that is now aiding work allocation on a daily basis, 2) the tool assisting them in Raising Status Alerts, 3) completion of the project ahead of schedule (time-to-market advantage) and 4) a Cost effective solution that we delivered using our offshore-onsite global delivery model.
