Partnering for cost effectiveness, quality and rapid deployment

The Customer

Our client is a major player in the Irish general insurance market. It has assets totaling 1 billion pounds and a staff of 850 in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Island.

The client is a member of a leading global insurer and provider of financial services. The group employs more than 100,000 people in nearly 70 countries worldwide, each with their own in-depth experience of local markets.

The Challenge

In an innovative strategic shift, our client embarked on a series of initiatives to transform its insurance operations from a traditional proprietary product and agent-based company to a multi-product, multi-channel financial services enterprise. The company's senior management recognized that their current business processes could not fulfill this strategy. They also knew that their IT architecture and infrastructure could not support the many new technical requirements necessitated by the move to a web-enabled business strategy.

In view of this the client was looking for a solution provider to enhance its core AS400 based application to cater to the changing business needs. Also to provide improved agency and customer services, the client was also looking forward for new e-business solution initiatives.

The Solution

We have provided solutions for diverse requirements of the clients' on multiple technologies (EDI, BizMap, EAI integration and e-business solution technologies). This involves working on the core application as well as several satellite systems to enhance the functionality of the core system.

Some key areas we have addressed include:

New Application Development:
Application for reprocessing rejects data from MID (Motor Insurance Database).

B2B application to provide improved service to the client's broker network. This application provides online service to the brokers on pre-defined queries and enables faster and efficient customer service.

Application to assist in assessing risk insured properties by location for suitable placement with re-insurers.

Develop a streamlined and user friendly security mechanism for table access by different users.

Application to rationalize customer profile to avoid duplicate, invalid and incorrect client names and addresses, existing across all systems.

Application Integration:

Automate and integrate new business, endorsements, renewals, lapses, cancellations and claims transactions for brokers to the front end using EDI protocols.

Workflow Management:

Produce claims information report for re-insurers dealing directly with the client or through re-insurance brokers

Automate journal and client payment queries to generate journal and client payment files every month end.

Automate blackboard screen invocation to attach notes on quotations submitted to clients.

Facilitate automatic filling in of "Risk Submission Form". This produces a form populated with up-to-date claims history, rating factors, sum insured and other relevant information, which forms the basis of renewal negotiations.

Wipro Benefits

The client's critical procedures were automated and integrated with the core application thereby reducing the cycle time of jobs substantially. The custom designed and developed applications fulfilled the client's need for fast, secure, on-line access to organizational data. In addition, the applications, tailored to the client's business needs, gave executives the ability to measure business performance and make informed, strategic decisions, bringing bottom-line results to the organization. Our client derived substantial benefits from this partnership in terms of:

On Time Deliveries: All Projects were delivered on time according to client specifications.

Cost Efficiency: Wipro delivered all projects on budget and at considerably lower costs as would have been the case if the client had gone for in house development. Savings also accrued due to consistent productivity enhancements over the lifetime of the project.
