Enhancing the functionality of Insure 90

The client

A leading general insurance company.

The business challenge

The client has a proprietary system based on AS/400 running Insure 90 (I/90) which needed to be enhanced to suit changing business requirements. These included among others:

	Enhancing the performance of a critical interface – Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) which is used by brokers to carry out 30-40% of the client’s business
	Migrating the insurance application from an acquired company to their I/90 system
	Developing new e-commerce initiatives to provide improved agency and customer service

The solution

Brief descriptions of major enhancements carried out by Wipro from its dedicated Offshore Development Center (ODC) in India set up in November 2000 are given below:

	An enhanced system that automates the business transactions received through the EDI interface
	Designed and executed the enhancements to the existing I/90 application for setting up of the new products of the acquired company and migrated approximately 100,000 records. This eliminated the need to upgrade the system of the acquired company to be Euro compliant
	Developed a B2B application fully integrated with the AS/400 backend, to provide online service to the brokers on pre-defined queries

	Easier access of backend systems by the brokers resulted in an increase in agent productivity, reduced cycle times and improved customer service
	Automation of the business transactions received through EDI interface to the I/90 such that there was no user intervention required to update data into the system
