The US is the largest home loan market in the world with over 70 million mortgage holders and US$10 Trillion in loans outstanding. While the top 6 domestic banks corner a bulk of market share, the industry is rapidly getting ancillarized and specialized. Home ownership rates have not significantly fallen since the subprime crisis of 2007-2008 and are stabilizing at a healthy 65%.

'Biz-krieg': Where Business Intelligence Meets Search

Businesses love data. They want to hoard it, churn it, and analyze it to gain insights into their business. But data volumes from within (ERP, SCM, CRM, MES, etc.) and from outside (interest rates, income trends, GDP, weather, consumer trends, etc.) have been growing at a furious pace. It has reached a point where instead of feasting on the data, businesses have begun to get frustrated by it.

Payment Services: Time for an Upgrade

Posted by Sreekanth Nyamars in Organization Strategy

The payments services industry is booming. Worldwide mobile payment transaction values will reach $235.4 billion by the end of 2013, a 44 percent rise from $163.1 billion in 2012.By 2017, the market will be worth $721 billion with more than 450 million users. On the flip side, payments are no longer the sole prerogative of banks. Thanks to digital disruptions, other payment service models have evolved, enabling non-banking players to provide similar services at lower costs, giving banks a run for their money.

Gamification: From fun to business transformation

Consider a scenario where an employee is asked to play ‘Angry Birds’ at work. With gamification being adopted by organizations to enhance and supplement staff skills, an act that would have previously attracted admonishment might now even be encouraged. Organizations are now starting to realize that, as human beings, we are naturally driven by the need for validation, accomplishment, and status. Gamification leverages this need and utilizes it to a company’s benefit by influencing the design and execution of training and engagement programs.

Move To Hybrid Cloud Inevitable

Posted by Anuj Bhalla in Business Landscape

Comments(1)

Gartner predicts that almost half of large enterprises will be engaged in a combined, public/private cloud operation, often described as "hybrid" cloud computing, four years from now. Enterprises are increasingly looking to private clouds to keep some of their core assets under their control while still moving to a cloud environment. According to the Cisco and Wipro commissioned Forrester Consulting study, hybrid cloud is becoming the new normal.

“Customer is King” is a cliché today. For organizations, the center of universe is its customers and banners proclaiming this are often displayed on service floors and customer touch-points. But how many customers think these businesses practice what they preach? Despite best efforts, businesses may not be able to deliver the experience that they aspire to or to the levels that customers demand.

As I waited to meet the principal, the teacher’s voice drifted out from the open classroom window. It was a dark room with the children on the floor. I couldn’t make out more from the outside. The voice was repeating “Kanha is a national park. It is open till 6pm in the summers and 4pm in the winters.” After 3 repetitions, he instructed the children to repeat after him, which they did.

The Wow Factor in Establishing Brand Loyalty

As mentioned in my earlier blog on Cultivating Brand Loyalty, I am a huge fan of coffee. Now, the truth is that occasionally I have been tempted to trade in my loyalty to Starbucks for an artisan coffee chain. Maybe one day I will try out a ‘Third Wave Coffee’ or pop into ‘Harris + Hoole’ the next time I am in London. For the moment, give me my skinny latte at the local Starbucks.

Let’s face it. These are VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) times. We may have put the global economic crisis behind us, but the aftermath lingers on. Consider the retail space. True, consumers are opening their purse strings, but they’re doing it very selectively and expectations are sky high. They want the best product and the best price, encapsulated within the best shopping experience.

While watching the movie Bhag Milkha Bhag I started to notice how the runners use the time between the sprints. They use this time to prepare themselves to win the next event. They use the down time to rest their muscles, catch their breath and rethink their strategy and approach to competition. The best of the runners use the lean period to prepare for the next race.

MDM: The Cassandra Conundrum

Posted by Venkataraman Ramanathan in Business Landscape

Greek legend has it that when Apollo fell for the beautiful Cassandra, daughter of the King of Troy (nope, Brad Pitt wasn't in the works then!), she spurned him. An angry Apollo, who had earlier provided her the gift of prophecy, cursed her saying that nobody would ever believe what she foretold. Looks like MDM consultants share the same fate, as of now at least.
