Wipro has developed business continuity plans for its locations of
operations for software services in India. The multi location offshore
business model helps Wipro to address business contingencies with
the available talents and critical applications. Wipro has skilled
people onsite across locations in US, Europe and Japan geographies,
with several local personnel, to relocate as necessary. Additionally,
senior managers of Wipro are identified with backup personnel. Critical
resources have multiple entry visas for travel at short notice.
The scope of BCP in Wipro predominantly includes two major segments:

The customer-dedicated systems comprises of offshore development center
(ODC) servers, ODC communication links, ODC LAN, desktops, employee
safety and seating infrastructure and the people and processes associated.
The internal backbone systems comprises of servers managing the supply
chain like SAP, CRM, recruitment, employee self service portals, networks,
desktop access to required systems, employee safety and seating infrastructure
and the people and processes associated.
Wipro's technology infrastructure in various locations of operation
brings in effective resilience in the basic IT infrastructure, which
helps critical business operations run during disaster situations.
This includes the communication links used for connectivity with customers
in various geographies from India as agreed with customers, to the
various types of IT systems used for running business critical applications
for the organization. Multiple media of communications (Eg: fiber
and satellite), with multiple local and international carriers and
multiple service providers add to this initiative.
Due to the multi location advantage, Wipro‘s network infrastructure
is geared to meet the challenging needs of business operations from
multiple centers. All the offices are interconnected through high
speed links for ensuring redundancy and Wipro Managed secure network
offers the same functionality when it comes to customer connectivity.
Disaster recovery processes are framed as part of our business continuity
plan initiative for the business units and functions with roles and
responsibilities of the various teams clearly defined in the organization.
DRP Mock drills are also carried out as per the agreements with the
customers and learning’s are incorporated for continuous improvement.
Fire evacuation drills in Wipro premises are periodically conducted.
Wipro has also selected an alternate center in India, to be its disaster
recovery center for Wipro’s own business critical applications
which includes various employee self service portals.
