It began with only 900 runners; today it has close to 30,000 participants and 100,000 spectators from across the world. It has grown to become one of the most iconic marathons in the USA.

The Marathon is known for its scenic views and is the only race that runs through the roadbed of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a loop course that starts at the Ferry Building, over the Bridge, along the coastline, through Golden Gate Park, and past the AT&T Park before finishing in front of Cupid's Arrow. TSFM is USA Track & Field certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. The marathon star events include The Wipro Team Challenge, Full marathon, Two-half marathons, a Progressive Marathon & a 5K run and the fourth annual Munchkin Kids Run.
